'Death Troopers", "Coruscant Nights III", "Fate of the Jedi"--anyone read them? I still look down my nose at Death Troopers--did the canon really need zombies? FotJ is more fun than I expected, though, with all the alien cultures, although I haven't read the most recent one and find the Sith rather extraneous. And why Michael Reeves do you leave Jax Pavan's fate open, whyyyyy...*trials off* But I bet you the CN group will show up in his next book, whether or not they're in the blurb on the jacket. One of the reasons I love him is the cameos. (Nick Rostuuuu....)

The canon does not need zombies. *fumes* The SW universe is infinitely rich and complex, and the best they can do is zombies?! *rants* What's next, clones??
...Oh.
(No, I haven't read any of the recent books. Been too busy. I don't really dabble in the EU all that often anyway, I get most of my info from Wookieepedia.)

lulz...
They've been all zombie-themed lately in TCW too. It's...unexpected, to say the least biased thing.
But meh, I think talking about this stuff but...I'm not gonna boycott it because of one decision, you know? It's fandom, I can do what I want with it, they can do what they want with it.
I'm a little baffled right now by what I have begun to mentally refer to as "the Mandalorian crisis", this thing in TCW about Satine leading a pacifist faction of Mandos, which, yes, sounds about as sensible as "pacifist rancors", but...it's just one faction, right? I've been hearing all this nonsense about retconning Mandos entirely. Can anybody shed light on this?

What?! They stole my pacifist Mando idea!
Unfortunately I don't really know much else about this except that Karen Traviss got the short end of the stick.

I'm currently on the third Fate of the Jedi book, Abyss. I haven't started it yet, so I guess I'm not on it, but it's sitting right next to me begging to be read. xD
They're pretty good and rather informative, since I haven't read anything else pertaining to Luke's and Leia's offspring etc etc.

I've only read a couple chapters of Abyss too. It seemed to sortof be going in the "horror" direction with the Maw!
LOL They did! I hate when that happens. XD At least you know your idea was a good one.
I read Traviss' blog and she is, at least there, taking it very professionally, saying that it's just business and as much as the fans love the characters they are just characters to her and she's not going to fight to keep them, which was...kindof unexpected, really, with how passionate she's seemed to be about the Mandos. But she wrote that she created her own niche because as one of the newer writers she didn't want to tread on anyone else's toes. So maybe she's not so much a fangirl herself as was rumored.

I still think it was unfair, especially after the insane amount of work and thought that went into what she produced. I mean, I respect her greatly for dealing with this in a mature and professional manner and not getting all whiny or lawsuit-y about it, and she does have a point in that it's unwise to get emotionally attached to characters you write for a franchise. But what she wrote about the Mandos was some of the most brilliant stuff I've seen out of SW in a long while; vastly more fascinating than whatever's been going on in TCW lately. It just goes against common decency that her brilliance gets shafted in favor of a show whose writing caters to tweenage boys.

I didn't like the writer of Omen. She used too many similar words too close to each other, and she used the word "peruse" incorrectly.
Yeah yeah, I'm such a nitpicker.

What?! No one misuses "peruse" on MY watch! We must correct this injustice! Take the law into our own hands!
We must...make waffles.

OKAY. But we can't share them with the author.

....Le gasp. I remember that! I raised an eyebrow at that "peruse" and then tried to pretend I hadn't seen it. Hehe, in Abyss they wrote the "a long time ago...etc" incorrectly as "in a galaxy a long, long time ago." I wasn't sure if they did it on purpose or not.
*bakes waffles*

Yeah, it was done a few times. Drove me insane. *shakes fist*
I'm about halfway through Abyss now. I'm not a fan of the way the author describes technological things. I kinda go "huh?" then skip the paragraph. xD

I haven't finished it yet--I read like a chapter in the bookstore and need to get it from the library when I get home in a week or so. Discussion forthcoming! XD Already at the beginning I don't like the description of the abandoned spaceship in the Maw; it was too drawn out. But the pacing of the Solos' plot is going well.
