Anybody else watch Avatar: The Last Airbender (the cartoon--maximum title confusion for the win!)? I love this show. It's just got such a fun world and characters (and Mark Hamill!) It's hard for me to pick a favourite character, although Sokka's up there... But I'm not sure what to think about the movie. Shyamalan is still one of my heroes, but...I want the director of "Sixth Sense" to make more "Sixth Sense", not an adaptation of a show that tends more toward "Lady in the Water", you know? And one of the few things we've seen in the trailer, Aang's martial arts, didn't impress me. Discuss.

I've seen bits and pieces (pits and teeses?) of episodes here and there, and it officially ranks as one of my "could be one of my favorite series if I'd actually invested the time and effort into watching it".
I did make sure to see as much of the season finale as I could in between my sister's channel-surfing, though! Does that count for anything?
(I'm so horrible at watching TV these days. I think I forgot how.)
But yes. Awesome show.
I don't know enough yet about the movie to have any sort of opinion on it, I just go into some sort of trance every time I see/hear the letters I, L, and M, in that order.
Shyamalan (is that really how you spell his last name? I can never figure it out) has proven to be a pretty competent director, but I am curious as to how he's going to handle something like Avatar, which has quite a different tone to it than the genres the man usually works in.
We shall see, I suppose.

I caught it on TV a couple times the summer before college, and only really got into it when a friend showed me the DVDs. It's really fantastic. lol that counts!
LOL ILM is love. They're doing it?!
Shyamalalanana really doesn't seem like the right person to do it, but I agree that he is a good director. All of his films seem to have mysteries to solve, puzzle pieces to put together, and Avatar is sortof like that with its White Lotus motif, but...not really.

The DVDs are definitely on my "list of DVDs to get in the unlikely chance that I start earning enough income to afford DVDs" list.
...You're right, I probably should start giving my lists shorter names.
From what I have been able to garner (from a friend who's just as ILMsessed as I am), yes, they are. So even if the writing and acting is below par, the special effects will be muy tasty.
Yeah...but who knows, maybe we just gotta give him a chance. He seems to be testing the waters here. It may be a bit unfair to pigeonhole someone into the genre of their specialty if they have an interest in branching out and experimenting in other directions.
...Or maybe Nickelodeon was just like "HAY we need to capitalize on this series more even though it's over! Movie adaption thyme! Larry from accounting, doesn't that M. Night guy owe you a favor from that time you used the Heimlich maneuver on him when he was choking on a marshmallow?"
...I have got to keep my imagination in check.
