I know there's a funny picture posted, but I did want to start a topic on the DaVinci Code. I have yet to see the movie, but I've heard a lot about it. Some people aren't happy...others love the movie. I just hate hearing people say "You shouldn't go see this movie, because everything in it is fictional". Gosh, What do people normaly think movies are about? You surely don't think people believe in aliens and dinosaur DNA, do you? Oh wait...maybe some do. Mwahaha. Anywho, let me know your feelings towards the movie and the book.

The book was real good, written fast and well, but as a Christian I don't believe in the facts Brown brings up. That's the issue; he thinks he's right, and a lot of the art history and/or religious-archeological-history is incorrect. I have heard many different things about the movie. Ishmael said it was boring. *shrug*

Everyone keeps asking me if I've seen it? Do I look like a Da Vinci code kind of person? I don't know...
I do want to see it. Hey, Conspiracy theories rock, religious themed or not.
The one thing that annoys me the most is a lot of these "Christians" keep complaining that the movie tears apart their beliefs, yadda, yadda, yadda. If your beliefs are strong, they won't be at risk of falling apart by seeing just a movie. I also just can't agree that the movie targets the Christian faith. For crying out loud, how many times do we see the wiccan faith torn apart by movies? Most people never question that, and I know several wiccans who enjoy Harry Potter. These are the same wiccans that don't wear black pointy hats, ride around on broomsticks, and have green, warty faces. ;-)

I read the book and I liked it, but the ideas in it were out there and almost laughable. I will see the movie sometime just to compare them. In my opinion there is intersting things to discuss, a whole bunch of "what ifs?" that could lead to a brawl, but I think everyone is getting worked up over nothing.

This topic as doomed to flaming even before it was created.
The Davinci Code is blasphemy. No one can argue that it is "just fiction," because it bases itself in the light of "truth." It claimes it bases its plot on truth. It's the utmost diabolical lie of the 21st century.
The DaVinci Code may be "fiction," but see it this way: if someone were to make a book about my friend, say that they found a picture of them...lets say talking to a girl/guy, and made a book about some made-up scandal they had, should I read it and say it was "cool," or "funny," or anything of the sort? NO! It would devistate my friend, and their reputation. The book would be lying, saying it found "evidence" that my friend had an affair with someone, though that is completely untrue.
Besides that it goes much further. So far as to say Christianity as a whole is a giant conspiracy. No matter what people say, The DaVinci Code WILL condemn peoples' souls to hell, because they will turn from thier faith, believe in falsehoods, and proclaim false truths. I've heard people say things like "I like the DaVinci Code because I hate Christianity." I was out of town, unfortunently, when my family and people from my parish went to protest outside the theater. They told me about all the people who spit at their feet, flashed demonic signs at them, yelled at them, blasted out thier music against their protesting, etc. There is NOTHING good about the DaVinci code. Nothing. No ounce of virtue, holiness, or good morals. It is the devil's reply to The Passion of the Christ.
I've said what is required of me. Others can carry on whatever I may have left out.

Um.. yeah thats pretty much it! Da Vinci code sucks! and really makes no sense!
It says that Christ had a kid and thats where the lineage of France came from!!!!! um yeah OK I don't think it can get any stupider than that ... really.
I mean who would want to read or watch a book thats so just... bad. I think if you really actually love ( or fear ) Jesus at all you would not see or read the book or movie.
I noticed all the people who were against us when we were protesting against "The Da Vinci code" that liked the movie, gave us the devil horn sign and stuff like that, the "evil" stuff so I don't see how it could be even close to a acceptable thing when all the people who are for it are also for the devil so... if you like it I would be careful cause it seems like the majority of people who like it like the devil as well.
It also insults Our Lord's divinity saying He would do something he told us not to do, some thing thats a sin! heck a mortal sin! That is so completely wrong I can't even begin to explain it! Christ didn't sin, He cannot sin, God hates sin, He is God so why would He sin. It's like saying Jesus isn't God and your not a Christian if you believe that Jesus isn't God!
I think every time some one goes to see this movie its a HUGE slap in the face to God it's like "Hey look let's go watch this movie that mocks The Person that died for us so we have some chance of going to Heaven, and who we can never fully repay, who loves us so much and gets nothing out of it, who created us and is infinitely above us, so lets just go to see the movie cause after all it is "Just fiction" so there isn't any harm in it at all even though it is a mortal sin and it means we'll go to hell, but it's just fiction so it's OK." I mean come on! its a sin!!!! a sin is a sin weather its fiction or non fiction!
Also the book says its real even if you know its not true that doesn't make it right! I mean its like if you shot some one and you say it was an accident, and you thought the gun wasn't loaded, and you were just "playing around" ( even though I don't think any of you are so stupid as to play with a gun ) only this is ten times worse! your basically going up to God and spitting on Him! It's just so obviously wrong!
If your going to see this movie ( which I highly DO NOT advise! ) just during it think of Jesus and what He must think of this movie, and what a blasphemy it is against Him! I think, if you have any conscious at all, you'll be deeply ashamed your there or that you even thought of going to see it. Well I guess I'll stop now, even though I could go on for A LOT longer but I want to make this readable. So I just hope that if your thinking about going to see this movie you'll reconsider! please! at least for the sake of your soul and to help stop the offenses this movie. Jesus has already been so deeply offended by this movie and so many other things. You don't need ( and I certainly hope you don't want!) to add even more sorrow and betrayal to His most Holy and Sacred Heart.

I just don't see anything wrong with Jesus being married OR having a child. Back then, that was normal. Shoot me for saying so, but I think I would honor him just as much and maybe even a little bit more if he had a family. Having a family is normal for someone who calls themself human. Even if you believe he was part human/part god, you are still saying he was at least SOME part human. No matter how much time goes by, human instinct will never die.
I say it again and will say it over and over again. If your faith is strong, you have no reason to worry that it will be changed by something as small as a movie. If it is altered by just a movie, then perhaps you need to take a step back and rethink your beliefs. Perhaps those who had their beliefs altered by this movie were not strong rooted in the Christian faith and just never had their hearts in it. I believe true faith comes from the heart, not from forced teachings or any amount of preaching. If you can't bring yourself to believe in something, I say don't believe in it. Believe what's in your heart.
I really doubt people were spitting at your group because the devil told them to. That right there is an example of inappropriate human nature. It's unnessecary and rude, yes, but devil induced? Come on. We live in a society today where people don't want to be told what to do. A lot of peoples' response to what you were doing is "Rebel". It's like me going to a rodeo and being swarmed by animal rights activists. What do they expect me to do? Go home? Yeah, OK. People aren't going to be swayed by something they don't believe in. People don't like to be FORCED to do anything.
Just because some author says his ideas are true doesn't mean you have to believe them. I take this movie for what it is - a movie. Maybe he believes his ideas are true and he wrote them down. I have quite a few ideas I'd like to write down as well. Doesn't mean I expect a whole group of people to believe them. I mean, some guys all got together and wrote the bible. YOU believe in it - others don't. Just because someone wrote it doesn't mean everyone HAS to believe it.
I don't think anyone meant it to have any of these qualities. It's a movie, entertainment, something that will keep human minds busy.
No one here has flamed, but I have found it inappropriate for you and Armie to say certain people will be condemned to Hell for seeing this movie. That's not right. If you believe that, that's fine. But please don't insult the rest of us by saying that here. I believe God is the only one qualified to make those decisions and no one here on Earth can determine what is wrong and right in his eyes.
I'll keep this post open as long as no one is insulted. Please try to keep an open mind and DISCUSS this. Remember, not everyone believes the same thing as you do.

No matter what people say, The DaVinci Code WILL condemn peoples' souls to hell, because they will turn from thier faith, believe in falsehoods, and proclaim false truths. I'm not believing in falsehoods, and I read it, MFB. Right here I do not agree with you. I just don't see anything wrong with Jesus being married OR having a child. Back then, that was normal. It was normal. But Jesus, part God, was free of mortal compulsions (sinless) if not incapable of feeling them (human). I think he would not have caused the controversy and distraction of being with a human woman, nor needed that drive as he was meant to be immortaliized (resurected). I belive that what He wants for us is what is written in the Bible under His protection. But this above statement is true--God is the judge, not man, and we have to know in ourselves and ask Him to help us know what is going to pain our faith, and what is not, and where it is our duty to instruct others on the truth they are not familar with and where it is not. I can easily understand how some people are struck by Brown's saying that his book is true. I don't believe that, he does. It's like if Mr. Tolkein had said, "My LotR saga really happened". I wouldn't believe that either, but would still be a fan. Some people would belive maybe because they want to, while I would stick with the Biblical version of British history.

A heated arguement FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you MFB for saying that I am going to H-ell just for reading a book! Have you ever heard of free-will? God gave us the choice of making choices. I would rather have Jesus be married than have him be a womanizer and i'd rather him be a womanizer than be g ay, but still it is kind of weird. The book is fiction "based on facts" my but. The French being related to Jesus what is the world coming to? (lol inside joke my old dead family were all French)
The Two,
I'm editing your post for several statements you made. We want to avoid making this a heated thread. Please keep your posts civil and kind.

I don't have the time to reply the way I'd like, but I thought I should make one thing clear:
When I said it would condemn peoples' souls to hell, I never said it would condemn EVERYONE'S soul who read it. That would be ridiculous. God IS merciful to those who seek His mercy, afterall. BUT, reading the book is a sinful act, just as it would be to listen to people talk about someone hatefully (without doing something, that is).
And free will does not mean you can go around sinning as you will. Ok yeah, it does mean you CAN, but you can't expect to go to heaven too. "You are either with Me, or you are against Me." etc.

I'd rather not get involved in this (in my oppinion) pointless argument as neither side is letting up.
I would, however, like all of you answer a few Yes/No questions.
They are;
1) Are you a Christian?
2) Do you belive that any, if not all, of the things that the Davinci Code said are true?
3) Do you belive fighting like this is going to (figuratively) bear good fruit?
Yes or no? Please answer only with one of the two words. Please do not post anything else. I would ask the Mods and Admins to help make sure that my requst is honnered. But I am just one voice in a sea of anger. If you'd rather continue fighting, and destroy your friendships then go ahead.
Just remember; Destroy Evil with Love as one does Fire with water.
And
There is only one Love, one God, one Way, and only one Truth. Nothing can or will Change that.

Woo, goop post, Nightblade.
1) Roman Catholic 2) No. 3) Fighting won't do a thing, because most of us are so well rooted in our beliefs.
If i had it my way, this topic would not exist, because it causes unnecessary conflict. I prefer the ESPS to stay conflict-free. That's my opinion.

1. Yes 2.No 3. There is a difference between fighting and discussing. I'm pretty sure that from the past I know, no one is going to convince anyone else or they would have by now.

See? We aren't fighting! We're discussing.
I will have to see the movie to let you know what I believe is true and what is not. I often find ideas stated in movies and books to be interesting, but believe me I know the difference between reality and fiction. I see reality every day.
I don't really have an answer as to what faith I believe in. Point blank - I don't know. I'm not going to fake believing in something that I don't truly believe in. So until I know 100% what I believe in, I will not declare a religion. I'm a confirmed Catholic, and Catholic by ancestry, however I can't say I agree with everything the Catholic church does.
Srry, I did those questions backwards.
I had a friend the other day use the devil as an excuse for negative human actions. Why is it that people do this? I just don't get it. Do people blame the devil because they are afraid to blame human nature? All humans are capable of negative behavior, some more than others.
I believe in personal demons - personal devils that spawn from our own indiviual psyches. I've done bad things in my life time, but I only blame myself. There wasn't a devil sitting on my shoulder telling me to do an act of evil. I wasn't tempted to do these bad things, I just did them. It was lack of thought on my part and simply doing something that seemed like a good idea at the time I thought of it. No devils, only myself to blame.
The devil is a cool story book character none-the-less. Very effective at scaring people into doing what others believe is right.

1) Yes 2)No 3)Yes
The devil is real and there is a h ell, but they are not excuses for wrong doing. I think everyone is starting to make this thread go from a discussion to a one sided story about attacking the Da Vinci Code without any reasoning I mean come on people it is just a book in a few years it will be old news.
I suggest that you all either read the book or see the movie so that you all have a larger knowledge of what you are speaking against so that this discussion can be intelligent and not just an attack on some poor writer that thinks that he can fool the world.
