Yeah, so we have a dilemma on our hands: posting wars. I know I'm only a mod; I'm no g-mod, admin, or important person. But I do feel as if my opinion is considered here: something I don't feel in many other places. Now, the below may sound rude--I don't mean it to be. You all know me, if only slightly. I'm not mean (at least I don't think I am...) I am just stating things a bit, how do you say, strait? Yeah...that. So remember that I'm not attacking anyone, nor am I singling out someone: this is addressed to all with good intentions and is here for the propagation of our beloved ESPS. ;D
Now, I want to make it clear that I don't really like it when people try to claim more posts than others--It's not that nice. Some people just don't like to post often. Others prefer to make their posts epic. And some just can't post a lot. Like me for instance. I'm kinda a mix of all the above.
So what's my point? I think everyone should just rethink a couple things. First of all, rule #2: be courteous. We all hate it when people bash our stuff: fandoms, personalities, stories, even our co-authors; you name it. We all want to be respected. So let's respect others and their likes/dislikes. Another thing is not to get irritated/paranoid(?) at others for their lack of knowledge in a said thing. Some people don’t like Star Wars; some can't stand LotR; and, although it is hard on the heart for me to say, some actually dislike Zelda and even poor little Linky. We should all just admit that people have different tastes, no matter how hard it is to bear. It will all turn out good if we just follow this simple rule.
Rule #4: have fun. This is another thing we all want. We don't want to be bored with lack of interesting topics or games. So for this rule, try to keep your topics and posts fun. Not necessarily meaning you can't post serious ones like this post, but I'm talking about unfun things: monotonous posts with lack of emphasis or heart. Just typing "Yes" will not do here. Emphasize, put some heart into it. That's what I'm talking about. Another good way to rid this boredom is to be RANDOM! Randomness creates some interesting and fun discussions, or is just plain fun. "MY MONKEY ESCAPED INTO THE MOUNTAINS!!! AHAHAHAHA!!" DO IT! ;D
Rule #5: NO DEPRESSION! This is ACTUALLY a rule! So REMEMBER THAT! No crying out pointlessly in posts, unless humorously. If you are SERIOUSLY depressed, then go read some angst. No, seriously, depression is NOT allowed, as it also goes against rule #4.
Now for a couple of things that bug me personally. One is a lack of respect for co-authors. Yes, we all like to whack about our own co-authors, but I think some of us (especially me at times) do it habitually to other's co-authors, take over other co-authors, or take the whole thing too seriously. They loose sight that these are only co-authors, not characters in a soap-opera. No offence here, but really and truly, co-authors should be SECOND in our posting to our own thoughts. I am especially bad on this point...*embarrassed look*
The other is the lack of originality in some posts (Again, me too). We like to repeat stuff: somethings are fun, and are thus ok. Some though are bad like repeating without permission. None of that. If someone else did it, it was funny, we repeat it. Try to be original: we're all capable. For example, I'm fine with people repeating phrases such as "BACON?! WHERE?!" "[something] beyond kool-aid, and "hai," and if Link "*throws flowers in the air and does a strange dance*" is repeated I'd be ok...but If someone were to copy Link's (pause) Why? and apply it to their own co-author, THAT is an example of what I'm talking about. To copy without reason or permission is not very nice and goes against rule #2.
Yeah, so that's my 2 cents. I must repeat: I am no important someone around here. THE or Cy must approve of my topic before it passes. But in my humble opinion, this is what posting should be. I don't mean to make posting difficult, but rather, to eliminate hard posting for the following poster and to create interesting posts. Post numbers are not everything: it's the posts that count. A number does not determine your wealth or value: what you post does. Your count does not make you a someone: the letters you type creates your personality. Yeah, the cool name you get is rewarding, but at what cost? I'm sorry for my rudeness in these past paragraphs, but I thought it necessary to get my point out. If I were to have been humorous throughout the whole thing, you would not have taken me seriously. But I beg you all: create good, fun, interesting posts and the ESPS will be a better place for it. ;D
Again, please excuse the rudeness...this post sounds snotty, just like my nose is today.
