Aye, I am in no regard a very religious person. Therefore I don't believe in a lot of the stuff my religion (Catholic) teaches.
I do not think animals are lower on the scale. If your saying that, then your forgetting that humans too are animals....
Think about it. If you were just dropped in the middle of the woods, (or prairie, or ocean, or anywhere, even the middle of a city), with no clothes, and no supplies, could you survive? Most of us probably could not with out making something or destroying something. You do not have speed or bodily weaponry to catch prey. You have no way of keeping warm. You have no way of protecting yourself.
Now animals can do all this and more. Humans have destroyed so very much of this earth that we have lost our animal instincts (Well most of us anyway) and we have evolved (even just within the last hundred years, no denying that) so that we have lost any ability to do anything on our own, without the use of something else.
What can we learn from animals you ask? The possibilities are endless, but for one example, we can learn about social structure. Our social structure (government, monarchy) may seem good to some, but there are others much better then ours. Wolves have such an effective government (if you would call it that) that it has been around for years and years and years. Governments in the human's world have been an undying struggle for us. There are two things that humans fight over, and those are government and religion. Why don't animals fight wars about these things? Studying them would give us the answer and advance us.
Humans struggle for power. It doesn't matter who you are, but one thing everyone would like is power over something else. SO why not take power over the animals? "They can't tell us different, they can't communicate with us, that makes us better!" What kind of basis is this?
If you have ever seen Matrix, then you know the virus speech. It is so very true though. Humans are the only creatures who go to one spot, use up all the resources till the spot is not even useable anymore and then move onto another spot to destroy. Viruses aren't even considered a lifeform, yet we are just like them! It just makes me laugh how people can go through their life thinking they are the almighty. Why do we have to be better then animals? Why can't we be equal. Instead of keeping and animal as a pet, keep it as a friend, or a partner.
As some of you know I have a horse, and going to the horse shows I would see ppl treating these live horses as Objects! Not living things, but simply property. They would hit them and yell at them and then they would wonder why the horse was not being good or why it was nasty. I have never treated my horse as property, nor have I treated her as a pet. She has ALWAYS been a friend to me, and a partner. When I'm riding her, I respect her descisions, just as much as she respects mine. This bond can do amazing things! I have never had a problem with her, and she has even saved my life a few times. Why did she do this? Because I respect her and she respects me. I don't see why it is so hard for ppl to respect animals instead of abusing them.
One last thing that I find horrible is ppl love to hunt. They love going out and massacreing animals lives and family. They kill, that's what they do. Then if an animal should attack a human, or even kill a human, what do we do? We label all of that animal's kind as evil, and then we kill them. Meanwhile, I believe those animals have every right to have killed that person. We kill their kind, they should be able to kill our kind. But if we were to respect an animal, we would never have that problem in the first place. I've seen lions and antelope living in harmony, cats and mice who are friends, and even birds and snakes who love eachother. Why is it so hard for us to coexist with them?
But I can see where you are coming from when you say you like some animals and not others. I like some humans and I hate others too . I have, however, yet to come across and animal I didn't like. (Except for squirrells. They just kind of annoy me )
Well enjoy my little rant there. Debates are fun and I love them. When it comes to an animal debate, watch out! lol. I am very passionate about animals.
