Marsha said, "That was a clean wound for an animal," before she saw Ti'nalya narrow her eyes. "I'm sorry," she continued in Na'vi. But it was important for the others to know what had happened. "It should be safe for you to walk around, and healthy to get some sun. Lady Neytiri, would that be acceptable?"

Ti'nalya glared up at the offworlder. These people with their scrunched-up faces that looked painted pale, making Na'vi bodies out of wedlock, bonding with them in some twisted form of the Na'vi's sacred ways...
She took a few deep breaths, reached for weapons she did not have. It was her family she should be angry about. And perhaps the Omaticaya needed to be warned. Perhaps they would help her take her revenge.
"That may help, " she said to Marsha, and swung her legs off the hammock. "Tsahik Neytiri...I have something to tell you. My brother took over my clan, did this to me. He's mad with anger...watch your borders."

Neytiri opened her mouth to reply to Marsha, but Ti'nalya spoke to her before she could. The Tsahik nodded and smiled, aware that Na'vi from other clans were much more wary of Dreamwalkers then the Omaticaya. "We are aware there is tension. Jake is taking all the precautions he can to avoid war. It's something we don't need right now, the wounds are still deep from the Sky People's intrusion.
"Now," She stood up, "you are welcome to take part in our usual clan activities until your wounds heal, both physical and mental."

John was still unconscious when the healer finished her work on him. Tanh'ite looked over John and winced slightly at his leg injury-it would be painful for him, for a while.
"He'll be fine." The healer looked down at the Dreamwalker, her face unreadable. "You're more than welcome to sit with him, Tanh'ite."
The healer turned away and started organizing her supplies. Tanh'ite sat down by John, looking at him with her head slightly tilted. She was almost tempted to go, but...she wouldn't want to wake up alone, after such an ordeal. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths, relaxing her muscles one by one.

Ti'nalya looked at Neytiri in surprise. Her clan would have been more suspicious of outsiders. (But obviously the Omaticaya were trustworthy--Neytiri's mate was from the Sky!) Neytiri was more interested in keeping her own people safe than in helping.
"Thank you," she said, and took some augmentative steps. She could walk fine; her head ached, and her balance was slightly off; she hadn't realized how heavy her braid had been. She felt like any movement of her head was far too fast now.
She walked past Marsha on the way down from the treetop, almost hitting the Avatar's shoulder with her own. She ignored her and headed down the stairs, but a moment later saw another Na'vi bending over a Dreamwalker. She couldn't resist her curiosity; hadn't he been with her before? When had he been injured---and fighting whom?
Was he dangerous?
With a grim expression, she nevertheless tried to sound friendly as she greeted the other. "I see you. My name is Ti'nalya..." Would thank you be appropriate here? She couldn't keep from looking down at the Dreamwalker with a bit of fang showing. They had caused the chaos in her clan, had made her brother determined that the clan needed a strong leader....needed him. "What happened to him?"

Marsha was surprised by Ti'nalya's brusque manner. She jumped back to avoid the Na'vi's shoulder, and stood there twining her hair around her finger while the angry woman stalked across the room. Marsha ought to see how John was too, but she didn't want Ti'nalya to turn on her. Would the angry Na'vi stay with the Omaticaya?
Marsha quietly asked Neytiri, "How is the planned migration going?" She wasn't sure "migration" was the correct translation of the word into Na'vi, but it was what Marsha thought of the journey as. The real question lurking behind was, "Are you going to leave Ti'nalya behind? She was like a male lion knocked out of its pride...and she would either find another one or die in the attempt.

Tanh'ite's eyes flew open with the reflexes of a hunter when she heard Ti'Nalya approach. She nodded to Ti'Nalya after her greeting before her gaze looked to John. She could see Ti'Nalya's distaste for the Sky People in her eyes. She didn't blame the warrior.
"Oel ngati kameie*, Ti'Nalya." She gestured with her hand in the traditional way. "I'm Tanh'ite." She glanced at John quickly, thinking he was stirring, but nothing. "We were attacked by a group of nantang* while bringing you back here. Large...strange..." She held her hand up for their size. She stretched her arms, alleviating some of the soreness from her shoulders. "Its good to see you up. How do you feel?"

Ti'nalya admired Tahn'ite's smooth movements, and tried to look at her gestures instead of at the Dreamwalker lying on the hammock. "Strange indeed," she said. "Eywa is out of balance because of...because of the intruders." She made her expression firm. "Thank you for your concern. I feel...no worse than after any battle. I will go outside and call my ikran."

John stirred. He heard voices above him, speaking in Na'vi. His head was to clouded to understand the beautiful language, so he opened his eyes to see who was talking. It was Tanh'ite, talking with the wounded Na'vi, Ti'nalya. But Ti'nalya looked well, almost as if she had not been hurt at all. Then she turned her head, and John saw the severed queue. He groaned, and both Na'vi looked down at him. He was at a loss for words, his head still to full of fog to think of any words in Na'vi, so he just smiled and nodded.

[[Sorry its so short. I've been in a rush to get my observation hours in so I've been really busy this week.]]
Lu'Taw felt his eyes narrow slightly. He didn't like to admit it, but he wasn't blind to the benefits that the Dreamwalker's technology and knowledge could offer. It had saved Tingay from the raging fevers that nearly killed her after her battle wounds refused to heal and now this new Na'vi had been aided by their medicine.
"I guess it was good that the Dreamwalker was nearby to help." He replied quietly. He glanced back to where the healing was being administered. "I wonder how long it will be before we meet the stranger. Was she able to tell you her name?"

"We've run into a few difficult spots." Neytiri said, addressing Marsha's question. "Some have flown ahead with Ikran, and we can find no larger trees then this one. The wildlife gets more hostile as we go on as well." She sighed quietly and watched Ti'nalya get up and leave with ease. "We can only hope Ewya will provide."
The tsáhìk motioned towards the wounded Dreamwalker. "You should have a look at your partner, as well."
--
"She didn't." Ne'shrin shrugged slightly; a very Dreamwalker gesture, he realized. Perhaps he'd been studying them too much. "I would like to know myself."
They stood at the opening into Hometree, watching the other Na'vi come and go in the glow of the night. Ne'shrin decided in that moment it was time to step up and make the effort to become a clan member. Too much dilly-dallying and not helping others like he should be doing. He wanted to help the clan, not sit around in trees all day. "Lu'taw," he turned towards the younger Na'vi, a little shy, "I want to try and train more then I have been. I know you're devoted, perhaps we could train together?"

Marsha twisted at her hair even more determinedly. "You're right." Sometimes she felt like she could forget Earth entirely and live in her Na'vi body. She didn't like to admit it, but needing John to help her in and out of her avatar made her feel like a burden on him, or like they were both so clumsy compared to beings who controlled one body. "Eywa will provide," she said in Neytiri as a goodbye, feeling like it was the right thing to say for the ritualistic Na'vi, but also like it was silly--what was Eywa but a planet? It would provide only as much as Earth even had for its children--sometimes, and sometimes not.
As Marsha approached the sickbed where John lay, she saw him open his eyes. She smiled back at him, sincerely happy to see him okay. "John! I'm glad you're all right. How are you feeling?" she asked in English, rushing to his side.

Tanh'ite frowned grimly. She knew Ti'nalya was right-Eywa was out of balance. Many of her creatures had changed their behaviors. The nantang had grown in size! It bothered her deeply, but she didn't show it.
"Be careful, Ti'nalya. You should rest some more soon." She smiled a bit to the foreign warrior. "Your Ikran will be glad to see you."
Tanh'ite thought of her Ikran companion, Tswaya. They hadn't seen each other in quite some time. That would have to change soon. She looked to Marsha, who had come in quickly, to see John. With an outward smile, she watched their interaction. Their friendship was evident. Her heart ached, though. She wasn't so close with...anyone. Some days, that caught up to her. Today was one of those days.
She looked at Marsha while she talked-specifically, her mouth, to watch her form the English words. Tanh'ite was determined to become much better at speaking the language.

"I want to try and train more then I have been. I know you're devoted, perhaps we could train together?"
Lu'Taw's head snapped back to Ne'shrin fast enough to make his braid whip his opposite shoulder. The surprise was two fold. First another Na'vi about his age had giving him a complement about his training and second because that same Na'vi was asking to train along side him.
Lu'Taw had figured out early on in his life that some members of the tribe didn't fully trust him because of his unusually facial markings. They took it as sign of him being a bad omen. A source of strife or ill fortune for those around him. Tingay didn't pay their misgivings any attention and neither did Ne'shrin apparently.
"That would be...fine with me." Lu'Taw said awkwardly. He wasn't used to dealing with cooperation from other students. "I start training an hour before the sun rises. Tingay usually starts the morning with a lesson over either spear or arrow positions before giving me a task to perform that day. I'm sure she won't mind you joining in. We just need to let her know that you want to do training as well."

Ne'shrin grinned. He knew full well how Lu'Taw felt when training with the other clan-members-to-be. The older Na'vi had his own tormenters because of his laziness, and to find a friend was most welcoming and surprising.
Lu'Taw's facial markings were of no consequence to Ne'shrin. He thought of any Na'vi with unusual markings to be a gift of Ewya- her way of letting The People know that no matter how someone looked, she took care of them, and so should they. Everyone is different, yet they are one.
"Thank you." He said. "I'll be sure to bring my bow in the morning."

Ti'nalya sighed. Tanh'ite was right; although Ti'nalya was running on what was probably adrenaline now, she did feel tired. She wanted to find her ikran, make sure she was allright. But flying...Ti'nalya thought she might just slide off.
And there would be no neutral link to catch her.
A stab of fear hit her core as she realized that not only did she have no idea where her ikran was, she would not be able to connect with her when she arrived. Would she even remain loyal, or revert to the wild form she had been tamed in?
Ti'nalya's ears angrily flicked back against her skull. "I'm not sure I will be able to see her again. Might you accompany me, to show me around your camp?" It was hard for her to make friends, always; but then, she didn't always need them. Ti'nalya hoped it would work this time. She didn't consider for a moment that the Sky People still might need help.

"I've been better," John groaned.
"Your body should heal when you sleep, shouldn't it?" Marsha replied.
"Yeah, but I don't want to go back to the trailer yet. Not with so much happening here."
"You're right. I was going to go get our rescuers up to date..." and see if I could meet Ti'nalya's ikran, she thought. She knew John wanted to ride one too. What human wouldn't want such a dramatic experience, and such a chance to learn about something integral to the Na'vi culture?
"Don't get distracted by any fun creatures," John smiled.
Forget "integral to the culture", Marsha thought. He just wants to fly. She smiled. "You too." She turned and walked to the other side of the tree's core, catching up to Ti'nalya. It was amazing how the red-marked warrior was so determined to go back to her normal life after her injury. "Erm, greetings", she said in Na'vi to Ti'nalya's back.

Ti'nalya couldn't take it. They were trying to be nice. But they didn't get it. How could they? They didn't have this blankness stretching out in front of them, this disruption of everything from her daily life and conveniences, to her connection with her ikran, to her possibility of finding a mate...all of it changed, ruined.
"Go away," she said to Marsha. Then she turned, heading toward the other Na'vi she recognized nearby--Tahn'ite. And when she caught the other's eye, Ti'nalya couldn't resist. "You blasphemous human have the power to connect to Eywa when I do not--you have no right to speak to me. Go get lost in the jungle, Sky-dweller." Ti'nalya turned away, her head lowered.

"What can we do for her?" Norm ask as he watched Ti'nalya's outburst. "We let her find herself again." Tingay replied before walking over to Marsha. She gave the young woman a gentle squeeze on her shoulder. "Don't be distraught young one. Pain and grief leads the tongue to speak harshly. Take care of John and give Ti'nalya's grief time to run itself dry."
With that she followed after Ti'nalya. It would appear that Lu'Taw wasn't the only one who needed to get past the fear and resentment of humans. It was best to get her out of the mire of regret. She needed to remember she was more than the sum of her parts. A warrior was more than her skill. More than her connection with the world around her. It was her spirit. Her heart and ability to endure where others would shatter.
"Ti''nalya." She called with authority. When Ti'nalya turned back, Tingay kept her tone firm with a mentor's authority, but soft enough to sooth some of the pain the woman was obviously struggling with. "I know the pain you're going through right now, but your life is not over as you dread." She bowed her head to Ti'nalya. "From warrior to another, it would greatly honor me if you would join me and my family in training tomorrow." Tingay lifted her golden eyes and offered the staff of her spear to the warrior. She waited, silently praying that Ti'nalya would accept the offer and take the weapon.
*** Lu’Taw felt a rare smile cross his lips. He’d kept the expression reserved for Tingay for so long it was a wonder it came so naturally for Ne’shrin. “I’ll see you tomorrow then.” Lu’Taw was about to take his leave when a new thought made him pause. He looked Ne’shrin over before adding, “Tingay and I usually eat a morning meal together before a lesson. Would you want to join us?”

Ti'nalya turned around angrily when she felt the hand on her shoulder, but the older Na'vi's words shocked her anger away. That easily, she was going to be invited into the trust of this tribe? That easily, someone was going to look past her deformity? Either the Omaticaya really were blessed by eywa...or maybe they were just testing her, keeping track of her.
But she wasn't going to say no. She wouldn't mind some strain right now. She grasped the spear. "Thank you. This offer is....to say the least, surprising."
